Do you struggle to be productive? People often waste time procrastinating, and then feel guilty afterwards. Perhaps you feel constantly busy, but as though you’re not actually achieving anything?
Often the root of being unproductive is poor organisational skills. Being organised comes naturally to some.. but for most, it requires some form of forcing ourselves!
Research shows that poor time management can trigger stress and anxiety. Whatever environment you may be in, managing your time effectively will result in developing a more positive mindset. Further, you will be able to accomplish more!

Here are our 5 top tips to help you to be more productive…
-
Create a suitable environment
This may involve a clear out of your desk, organising loose bits of paper into files, ensuring you have all the right resources available to complete tasks.
-
Acknowledge what needs to be done
Make a daily task-list on paper or an electronic device and tick off tasks when completed, however big or small. People often mistake being productive as being busy and thus take on a lot, when in fact taking on too many tasks may be detrimental to achieving goals. Ensure that the tasks you take on are actually achievable within the time frame. Avoid multi-tasking and focus on one task at a time!
-
Minimise distractions
Distractions are inevitable. Maybe your colleagues are a great source of gossip or the latest sporting news. Leave break-times for catching up. If you find yourself easily distracted by e-mail, social media or other websites then it might be worth taking advantage of apps such as SelfControl or Freedom.
-
Schedule your time
By allocating realistic time slots to complete jobs, and actually sticking to them, will help you to accomplish more and give a sense of achievement. Dividing work into smaller chunks or setting timers can improve focus and reduce feeling overwhelmed.
In most companies, it is impossible to avoid phone calls and e-mails. Set aside specific times to respond to messages, perhaps two or three half an hour slots within the day.
-
Most importantly, reward yourself
Come up with little rewards that you can use to motivate yourself, or treat yourself after accomplishing goals. Make sure you arrange time to spend on fun activities or with your friends and family!
