If alcohol, substances, or certain behaviours feel like they’re running your life, you’re not weak — you’re stuck, and support can help.
I’m Lizzie, a counsellor specialising in addiction and recovery support for individuals and families. I work with people affected by alcohol use, substance use, and compulsive or addictive behaviours — including gambling, sex, shopping, and other patterns that can feel overwhelming or hard to change — as well as the emotional difficulties that often come alongside them, such as anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship issues.
My work is grounded in both professional training and lived experience. Having navigated my own journey from addiction to recovery, I bring a real-world understanding of how complex and deeply personal these struggles can be. This experience informs the way I work — with empathy, honesty, and respect for the courage it takes to seek change.
A strong therapeutic relationship is central to my work. I aim to create a space that feels safe, open, and non-judgemental, where you can talk honestly about what’s going on for you. I work holistically, taking time to understand your life as a whole — your past and present experiences, coping patterns, relationships, and sense of self. Together, we explore what may help you move forward. We work at your pace, and I welcome ongoing conversations about how the therapy feels so it can be shaped around your individual needs.
I’m particularly well suited to working with people who feel caught in cycles of alcohol or substance use, compulsive behaviours, or unhealthy coping, and who may feel conflicted, ashamed, or unsure where to begin. I also support family members affected by addiction, and people who are questioning their relationship with alcohol or other behaviours, even if they’re not sure whether it’s “serious enough” to seek help.
You don’t need to be certain or have it all figured out to get in touch. If you’re even wondering whether things could be different, that’s enough to start a conversation.
I can offer a free 15-minute phone call, where we can talk things through, answer any questions, and see whether working together feels right.
