I’m a widely-experienced psychotherapist (registered with UKCP), accredited counsellor (registered with BACP) and supervisor with close on 25 years’ experience. I’ve worked privately, for the NHS, with staff in a University setting and as a therapist for serving officers in West Midlands Police. I’ve taught psychotherapy and presented to others professionals on many occasions.
My therapy practice reflects my lifelong interest in health and healing and is an integration of personal experience, along with aspects of philosophy, psychology and clinical theory. I’m constantly developing my interest in therapy through Professional Development activity and write around clinical themes for professional journals such as the British Gestalt Journal (for which I am Assistant Editor) and the Gestalt Review. I bring my experience from previously working in education and music as well as influences from Buddhism and am generally experienced as an intuitive and patient person with a sense of humour and a balanced viewpoint. I offer long and short-term therapy and personal development work to individuals.
My core modality is Gestalt, a creative, holistic approach which supports working at depth with the therapeutic relationship and embodied process and includes uncovering the influence of both past and present situations on current difficulties. I include a focus on identity, diversity and racism and aim to help clients in developing enough support and awareness to grow into the preferences and changes which, outside of therapy, have proved elusive. I’ve particular interests in anxiety, abuse, shame, low self-esteem, anger-management, depression and oppression but have experience in all areas. I aim to meet my clients person to person and to bring the fruits of my broad and rich life experience to the clinical situation.
I supervise from a pan-Humanistic perspective and have long experience with giving individual and group supervision for both students and qualified practitioners. I have presented at several national and international Conferences and provided Team-Building consultancy to organisations and CPD workshops for practitioners and welcome contact with regard to this.
